it will be strong north winds & a brief time with temps that low. they're about 18" tall now w/blooms.

Cover! We had 36 on the back porch a week or so (?) ago - and a light frost on the windshield. Lost about 1/3 of my 'maters.

It's 8:30 pm, are they covered yet? Or are you scrabbling around in the dark trying to make sure that every leaf is under cover? Ya' gotta protect them from the frost monster!

they are covered, one and all. even covered the onions. they would probably be ok, but they're pretty far along & if their tops got broken down, that would be that - a crop of little onions.
the other day I saw 'plankettes' (sp?) for a steal. I was in a hurry & thought, I sure don't need those now. man I was wishing for those tonight as I was scrambling to find cover for the veggies.

Haha, I'll be covering mine tomorrow.......... I have lots of bedsheets for that purpose. Garage sales are a great place to stock up on them. ;)

BJ, did you get a frost? And how low did the temps get? I hope your garden came through ok. :)

It is predicted a low of 42 for tonight here, and I don't think it will bring a frost. Tomorrow night is predicted a low of 40. I think mine will be ok. But I would be devastated if my blooming tomatoes got frosted and my tiny squashes on the big bushy plants.

Let us know how your garden is.

no frost last night, but tonight is the big kahuna. it's supposed to be 36 w/north winds 20-30. major catfish posted that wind chill chart & those temps/wind equal a chill factor down in the 20s. can you believe that in Texas in may? unheard of.
my squash have just started to set, tomatoes blooming, peppers coming along, egg plant just getting it's feet under it. I've got kale, cabbage, swiss chard I left uncovered. I think they'll be fine. I've got new asparagus with tender fronds - hope it's ok.
we'll see.
