And in non-gardening news, I've taken leave of my senses and volunteered to be my 6 year old son's soccer coach. I haven't played soccer since elementary school, or coached before, or know the rules. But at least I volunteered so they get to play, right?

Congratulations, I guess. I admire your courage. Is that a team at the playground or some other venue? How hard that will be will depend a lot of how they back the soccer program and how it is organized. I coached soccer at the playground without much more experience than you have, but I had coached a machine pitch baseball team before and I did know the soccer rules. There is a story on how I became that baseball coach by default. Being a coach at the playground was not on my bucket list, but I found out coaching wasn't that bad. You will do fine.

That playground did not take soccer seriously, if the parents wanted the kid to really learn soccer they took them to a competitive program at one specific park where they had good coaches and long seasons. The playground where I coached had a six-game season. You're just getting to know the kids and the season is over.

Hopefully you get some good parents. Most of them probably don't know any more about soccer than you do. My soccer parents were not bad, a couple of the baseball parents were. If you do have a parent that knows soccer try to get them to be an assistant and show the kids proper skills, like how to kick or pass a ball. Or get them to how you how to do that so you can teach the kids. If you can just show them how to kick a ball, even if they wont do it in a game, you will have done a great job. Most of the coaches at the playground where I coached could not do that, including me. Soccer really wasn't taken that seriously at that playground.

At that age it's not high level soccer with all the strategy or skills anyway. The kids are all going to cluster around the ball, they can't seem to grasp the idea of someone being out in the open so somebody can kick the ball to them. They can't seem to grasp the idea of kicking the ball to someone open either. It's just a mob of kids out there kicking the ball. Good luck finding a goalie and a couple of kids that will stay back on defense and still pay attention. A six year old that pays attention when they are not in the middle of the action, what a blessing.

It will be frustrating. Kids will get there so late you'll struggle to know if you have enough to even start the game with a full roster. And you are dealing with people. Hopefully some parents will volunteer to bring drinks or snacks so you don't have to or organize someone to do that. Take your responsibilities seriously, which is mainly kid safety and trying to let them have fun. At that age it truly is just a game for he kids, don't let it give you ulcers.

Well I'm super tired. Got a 1/2 cubic yard of veggie mix soil from local place and loaded into the garden by myself. That was hauling approx 1,000lbs around to the backyard. I love having a pickup. :) I planted the orange and apple tree. I still need to plant the blueberry.

Some pictures including the present for my awesome little helper from the garden fairies.View attachment 30832 View attachment 30833

Yes, my fruit trees are in 22 gallon containers for two reasons: I'm renting the house and the backyard is full of utility easements. I can and will move the trees up to 275 - 330 gallon IBC containers later if needed. They will join my bird of paradise in my plant collection when we move.

You don't need to know any of that when they are 6. My kids all played, my husband coached all of them at some point for all of their sports. Just a heads up with 6 year olds. Some will cry when then get one the field, some won't get on the field. 1 of 3 of my daughters boys did that a bit. They get over it. She coaches them all and does all of the volunteer things her Dad did. The funniest thing with my youngest Grandson at t-ball. When I arrived to watch him he went up to his coach and tapped on his arm and told him the had to leave the field to say HI to his Grandma. They are a hoot. Their are a ton of u-tube videos for you to use for things to do with them.

So its a good thing I started 10 each of the peppers. I was foolish and moved them closer to the window before I left for the weekend. They sun burned / dried out. I am down to 4 of each. All the watermelons are doing good though.

Our spring break trip had a great start with a birthday party at UrbanAir for cousin. Sunday we were fishing at spillway near MILs. I slipped and fell cracking my tibia. And then while hubby was getting the pickup, my son fell in. My SIL jumped in and fished him out. He's okay but I own my SIL a new iPhone. Expensive "free" fun activity with the cousins.:( Getting a head start on that insurance deductible...

I am planning on getting a cattle panel to make a trellis wall for the garden bed. The bed is 5'x2' and the panel is 8' long. There is about 1.5' between the end of the garden bed and the shed. I'm thinking that I shouldn't wrap the trellis on that end cause the gap will be too small. I don't want to make a mildew haven. If I wrap the cattle panel along the long side and one end I can cut off the remaining foot or wrap it around start of other long side. ____| or _____] Which do you think will work better?
