years ago we use have space in the old main garden for melons you name it we grew it on the ground. since it just the dw, dd and me here now and what we use as the garden now is for canning veggies and have expanded to raised bed gardening.
we are growing tigger melons for the first time still in the greenhouse , they will be about the size of a softball.

here's a question has anyone ever tried to treillis small melons along a fence like cucumbers ?????

I've seen them done that way but if the melons are very heavy they will pull the vine down or break it. Some growers hang the melons in little hammocks tied to the trellis to support the weight. Worn out panty hose are ideal for making the hammocks. They let the air through so the melons won't mildew or rot.
