Open confession is good for the soul. ~ Scottish proverb

I killed nearly half of the climbing rose building my new fence. I will post a picture from 2013 below ... maybe I can post a picture of the fence later but it won't compare.

Since the rose was planted years ago nearly on the property line, I should have started the measurements for the posts there instead of being crowded in where I was cutting through the roots.

Would you like to confess to a recent gardening mistake?

Thank you and thanks for the encouragement. I think it will be okay but it now has to contend with a mass of concrete within just inches of the crown. This may change everything.

Learning that one can admit a problem, apologize in general, then assert that what's going on is perfectly okay .... I've been looking for an excuse to post a picture of a couple of panels of my new fence when it was finished in March ;). (It really, really doesn't match the rose but ... i try!)

That is a good looking fence! Beautiful! It is hard to kill old roses...I wouldn't give up hope, yet. I can honestly say, I haven't made one mistake this year- of course, I haven't set foot in my garden either!

I agree, that is a fine looking fence. If for some chance it doesn't come back, is there room to plant another one?

Thank you ... then, you'd both be okay looking at it on the other side of your driveway?

I've also begun to think that upstate NY and New England are farther behind the weather 8-ball than @Smart Red 's garden! My daffodils still look good in the shade, by the way :).

I'm afraid to ask you about your bus stop greenhouse, Lesa. I know that life got especially busy for you in recent months/years. That bus stop seemed like such a fun idea. I hope it will pan out for you at some point in time.

Pan out ;). That may just be western lingo ... I've dun a little pannin'. It hardly panned out for me. Shoulda had a picture of my Grandma Goldie in my shirt pocket.

I had fun building it :). But, I don't know what my neighbors would think if I make the joke that the whole thing will have to be taken down if a single board is broken ... but, I really don't know how replacing a board might be done.

That is because those posts aren't 4 by 4's. The posts are two, 2 by 4's and the fence boards and rails are "sandwiched" between them. So, the fence boards are continuous from one corner to the other and trapped between each pair of posts.

The posts may be stronger or weaker as a result. I haven't figured out which ;). The posthole had to be large enough for a 4 by 6 and they are only 6' apart but it's kind of a laminated situation.

If it has a bad board or begins to fall down ... I'll never mention this project again !!
