I've got a mimosa planted in a big ornamental pot to grow as a tropical looking tree in a courtyard. here it is on the brink of may and this thing is just now barely peaking it's first hint of coming out of dormancy. I had no idea it was such a late comer. it better get it self out here & get busy looking lovely.

I love mimosas. They have those beautiful pink blooms and they smell so good. If one gets big enough, the wood has outstanding gorgeous grain. The only downside is they spread seeds all over and each one comes up twice! :lau

I love mimosa trees too! My small one had new growth as soon as the frost was over but my really big one is just now putting out some green leaves. Had me worried for a while. Every time my big tree gives seeds, my chickens eat them before I can grow any, and what the chickens do not get usually has some kind of weevil like bugs eating them. I was lucky to get my one small tree that escaped all the hungry critters:D

Just planted 2 in the west side of the chicken coop. They're only about 18"tall so they're in little hardware cloth cages for now. Hoping they will provide some summertime shade in the run.

Our neighbor has a HUGE one. They get very large, and their roots can be VERY invasive so be careful where you plant it.

We love it because come spring the hummingbirds come back and nest in it. You can watch them chasing each other around the tree from fuzzy flower to fuzzy flower! LOL

Hubby hates it because he mows her yard now and then as she's older, and she's been away for cancer treatment for awhile. The lower branches smack him when he drives under it. He gets mad and goes and gets his hand saw, but the branches always hang very low from the weight of the tree.
