It's funny to think that Orchids grow wild here in the Frozen North! I took the photos of the pink ones in the ditch on my way to work, and the yellow ones are in the ditch across from my driveway.
Those are really beautiful- isn't nature just amazing!!! I seem to remember they are on the "protected" list...if not, I would certainly be transplanting those!
The Pink Lady's Slipper is the MN state flower and yes, they are protected. I dont know about the other colors, there are many, but I dont chance it, we just leave them be and take lots of pics.
Lesa, wild orchids are practically the *poster child* of "don't transplant it from the wild", as they are quite picky about growing conditions AND need to have the right companion fungi living in the soil with them. They virtually never survive transplanting.
Nice pictures. Lady's Slipper is my favorite. I have a yellow that finally bloomed this spring it was small but beautiful. I have a pink one that has never bloomed for me yet, maybe next year.
