Years ago a friend had a couple Mulberry trees that made Long Blackberry looking fruit.

Can someone tell me more about Mulberries. My friend's family just let them drop on the lawn.

We have mulberry trees EVERYWHERE. They spread easily. Especially around the house fondation. :( The birds love the fruit as is evident by the purple POOP on the car and the fresh laundry. :barnie They stain terribly. I find the fruit rather tasteless. Need to mix them with more flavorfull berries to use. DH seems to like them. If I had my way they would all be cut out. :idunno

I LOVE mulberries!! We had a bush in our backyard when I was a kid and I would sit out there and just eat them. We bought one last year and it did fruit, but I only got to eat one. I don't know who got the others, the neighbor kids or the birds. there's not a whole lot to "know" about them. They grow pretty easily and you either like the fruit or you don't. My neighbor was really excited when we got it, said he couldn't wait for some mulberry jam! Lol

We have a very old mulberry tree in the front yard. The trunk is starting to rot and it's in bad shape but it's still producing fruit. I've loved the berries ever since I was a kid. I did find out that it grows well from cuttings, so I'll be trying to start some this summer. Just FYI, the white mulberries taste even better and they don't stain.

What kinds of recipe things do you use Mulberries in?

I'm kind of thinking that mixed with Blackberries they'd make great pies. Would they be any good in home made Ice cream? How about other goodies type things?

I've never cooked with them, I just eat them as I pick them. The kids get the ones I can't reach from the ground (I swear those kids are fearless when it comes to climbing trees) and the birds get the ones the kids can't reach. Mulberry ice cream sounds great though, I'll have to try it once we get our cow.

We had a white mulberry in our yard until the crazy October storm 2011, the snow was so wet and heavy that it split the tree in half right down to the ground...I will miss that mulberry, the chickens will miss it, as will all the birds in the area...
