I bought a yellow potted mum last fall, one of those cheap ones used for a table decoration, then often tossed out when the blooms are spent. Well, I stuck it outside after it got ugly, and it lived in the pot through the winter with no help from me. Growing well now. so I decided to plant it in the ground. Then I pruned it back to about two inches. Then I remembered that some people have luck starting mums from cuttings stuck in the ground, so I stuck about a dozen stem tips in a pot of damp seed starter mix. I couldn't find my rooting hormone. Covered the pot with saran wrap, rather loosly, and stuck it on my growing table under the lights. Anybody care to give the odds on these rooting? Or anything else I should be doing?

I think you are doing great, So Lucky.

Here's another idea for you: after Mother's & Memorial Days, the soopermarkets and such places will be absolutely giving away their potted mums. If they are in reasonable shape, make a selection of colors that would be nice in your yard when they bloom again in about 3 or 4 months. Cut them down and set them out in some good ground like you did with yours.
