So I planted a ton of heritage tomaotes this season. And life caught up with me and none of them grew. All except a few lime greens. And then I ordered from Abundant Acres, I ordered

2 - Jaune Flamme
2 - Wapsipinicon Peach
3 - Carbon
3 - Black Krim
4 - Black CherryTrue
2 - Purple Calabash

They came in 4/5 which is a few weeks after my frost. But they said they can work with me next year for an earlier delivery. Their plants were about a foot tall with almost thick stalks. Not super thick but not leggy either. Pretty close to what I would have found in the store/nursery. I planted them and they are starting to flower now. Meanwhile my like greens have stems like the incredible hulk. they are no where near as tall as abundant acres but they are fuller. In fact all the stems not just the main ones are thicker. They are also flowering and have been for 2 weeks before.

I will probably order from them again. that way I can have cool tomatoes with out the work. And for some reason I did great with my peppers I have all kinds.

Good for you, Obsessed!

It is fun to grow something different. I have never mail-ordered tomato plants. I used to rely most years on the locals for my garden tomatoes and that gave me very few choices. There were seasons when I had 1 slicer/1 cherry variety. :( That almost seems sad to me now . . .

Anyway, I knew that I could grow plants before that time so I got back to starting seed. However, there were some choices I made that were just complete failures! (I may have made 1 or 2 choices like that this year . . .)

I hope you enjoy your Lime Greens :p. You may be willing to go to the extra bother with those but it is also good to have mail-order business you can deal with. I see that Abundant Acres is in southwestern Missouri, not too far away.

We will both learn how Jaune Flamme & Black Cherry do for us this year :).

I am very very excited about the black cherry. I is always coming up and people swear by it. I tried to pick tomatoes that were not red (for the kids interest) and with short season (which is why you and I pick a few of the same this year like the tigerellas). My hope is to get tomatoes before the heat and humidity set in. Or at least smaller tomatoes which are should ripen faster and therefore crack less? I don't know if that is true that is just my logic.

I'm only growing Mortgage Breaker and Purple Cherokee this year. Half the fun to me is starting my plants in flats.
I got burned this year when I bought my bell and jalapeno peppers from a chain. As soon as they started growing I saw that I had mosaic virus. I'm pumping the fertilizer to them in hopes they'll outgrow it. It had to have come from the nursery. The ground they are in hasn't had anything but grass on it for 35 years so it couldn't have been in the soil. (It is now)
