I did my usual picking routine this evening....waited for the Sun to get below the western trees and set out with my trusty bucket.
Didn't pick Sat so figured some things would be in abundance...and they were.
More okra than the law should allow. Tomatos and peppers out the gate. Even the nicest little crook neck squash I've seen so far.
And how about that space ship looking deal.
But wait, I've noticed the sweet potato vines were taking over everywhere. So to the barn I go for a turning fork. Find the end of the row and turn over one forks worth and these are the tubers I found.
I have no idea how many there will be in this 40ft. row?
In all I picked over a 50 lbs. of produce.
I placed a variety of the things I picked in this deal and took a pic, cause on some of the tech forums I'm on, if there ain't no pictures "it didn't happen".

Now for a question...?
See the small potatos in the photo?...just look like roots...has anyone ever tried cooking them?
I'm thinking clean them up and deep fry... any thoughts?

Lovely picking!

Are those potatoes sweet potatoes? If they are, they usually do come out looking like a big root, just how they are!

They'll cook up like the big ones IF they are mature. You'll know by cutting into them. If not, it won't work as well, but I'm sure you'll get some nutrition out of them.
Congratulations!! :ya

Yes they're sweet potatos.

duckie
I deep fried one of the small ones this morning, didn't leave it in long enough and only got about a sixteenth of an inch deep, cooked.

Will try again when I have more time.

With as many vines that are out there I probably don't need to mess with those small ones....BUT I hate to waste anything.

Rich, you can keep the small ones for next year's starts.
