The neighbor took down the big silver maple. (Yes it was a messy tree.) Unfortunately it was the tree that shaded the east side of the backyard along with the fence until well past noon. Then the smaller hard maple in our yard provided late afternoon shade. I am worried that with the big tree gone my shade loving plants will suffer :(

The tree was between the shed and our fence. Do you think I need to worry? The plants are mostly ajuga , dead nettle, hosta and bleeding heart.

Is the deadnettle Purple deadnettle? Mine grows in full sun, shade, anywhere.

I would not worry, except for the hosta, the other plants can take sun, the ajuga and dead nettle can grow in full sun here. Will your house provide shade by 3 in the afternoon?

I would also worry about the hosta. Most of them don't do well in the sun although the growers are trying to breed for better color in the sun. If it is too sunny and/or dry the bleeding heart will die back to the ground. Being a sort of ephemeral, this is normal. The smaller fern-leafed varieties of bleeding heart will take full sun and flourish -- at least they did in my sunny perennial bed. Ajuga and nettle will thrive in full sun with no problems.

I think a shade cover might be a good idea while you check out your options.

That is a beautiful little spot in your yard. Sun or shade, it is eye-catching.
Thanks @Smart Red It looks really trashy in that photo. Some trash from winter accumulation not picked up, Little to no grass under feeders, etc...
I should get a good photo of the plants in that bed, Many of them from my TEG friends. :)
