Ok here's the pond I built last year.

It's about 3' 5" at the deepest part and there is a 1' deep area and a 6" deep area.

I had goldfish and water lilies in it last year. It look Ok, until August when the water level started dropping. I thought I had a leak, so I was going to fill it in and maybe try a bog garden.

Now though the water level hasn't changed in 2 months, so either I don't have a leak or all the sludge on the bottom clogged the leak.

If it isn't leaking, I would keep it. I think it would look more "natural" if you could find some more rocks to put along the edges. Every time I dig a hole I find a wheelbarrow full- wish I could share! I would love a pond, because I am entranced by the water plant options out there. A friend of mine, put in a small one and some frogs found it, and made it their home. I am hoping to put in some kind of a pond next year. Secret wish, to have it big enough for some ducks....Enjoy your pond!

I just checked out your garden pics- everything looks fabulous! Nothing thrills me more than a big bouquet, from my own garden! Can't wait for the veggies!

Could the water level dropping have been caused by evaporation in the heat of summer? A pond's water level can drop quite a bit in the hot sun. Also, if you do have a leak, but your surrounding soil is saturated with water, you won't know for sure until the soil dries around it again. Our pond overflows in the winter and stays at a higher (unlined) level, when the soil around it is moist.

I agree, you just need more plants. Plants around the outside and plants inside. Have fun.

You might also see if you can find some larger, less uniform rocks. Sometimes people give them away if they have extras or changed their mind about their landscaping projects.

maybe because there is not too much space between the building and the pond.. a skinny plant or a climbing plant.. to cover the building.. and some of those floating plants.. I am fully aware of ugly ponds.. mine has nothing in it.. I am having a problem keeping the filter upright.. :/ can you fit a bamboo in that back corner? it is a great screen..

I would get some flat stones to cover the edges and make it more natural-looking. Then I would get some mulch to cover the rest of the plastic. Once you have that done, you can make it look all kinds of pretty.
