Mystery plant needs an ID

A friend of mine sent me these pics to see if I could ID it for her. I was stumped, but I thought - aha! - I know people who can help out!

I can't really see too clearly from the pics, but it hints at maybe being a clematis, perhaps the autumn clematis? Did it come up on it's own or did she get it from someone and not know what it was?

It came up on its own, but she's not sure if it was planted by the previous owner, or is a weed.
