Yesterday I installed a wireless webcam in the greenhouse, and the installation is not for the faint of heart. It took me at least four hours on the PC to get it to work. That said, the camera has pan and tilt and can be accessed and controlled from anywhere online. It has a motion detection alarm system, that when activated takes a photo and sends it to your email address. It can be programmed to allow visitors access via a login name and password. In addition, it has IR LEDs that can see in the dark for up to 25 feet. Last night I could see in the greenhouse as well as in the daytime. An added benefit is two way audio so I can talk to who ever is viewing the camera. All this for forty dollars and change.

Not really. I spend a lot of time there and my wife can communicate with me rather than having to come out. And, it is a simple matter to unplug it and move it into the house for a security system when you are away. Basically, a toy. But that said, when I was in the bonsai society they published the members names and addresses and several members had their plants stolen. Some of them worth several hundred dollars each.

That would be cool to record plant growth and then create a fast forward growth movie. What fun that would be to watch as well.

So awesome for $40!

Where did you find this setup?

THANX RICH
Rich,

I found it on eBay and paid $40.83 delivered. It is intended as a security camera, baby monitor. I was looking for a wireless web cam and did not realize that you could get all of the options. Basically, it contains a small server.

There is an inexpensive camera that does that. It is called Windscape I think. I use it occasionally to record flowers opening. Ava loves time lapse sequences.

You can buy one for about fifty dollars if you look around. They work pretty good. Here is a link if you want to see what they look like:
