Anybody know what this is? They are very tall - this one is about 4'. Long oval leaves, and the flower smells like lilacs.

I think it is a milk weed. Monarchs love them. If you break a stem or remove a leaf is there a milky white sap?

The leaf looks like milkweed but the flower is different from ones I've seen. I think it is poisonous to horses.
If it is milkweed (and it certainly looks like it) it is poisonous to darn near everything. That's why Monarchs are poisonous to most birds and animals.

definitely a milk weed the monarch butterfly lays her eggs on it so the offspring will eat it...I always have some in the yard but beware it can spread like wildfire if you aren't careful...
