New Zealand Spinach

My first time ever knowing about it, growing it, tasting it

anyone else grow and use this?
do you have to cook it? I have googled it and found both "you have to cook it" and "you dont have to cook it" info

for me this is how I feel about it so far


1. very easy to grow .. stick a seed in and jump back!
2. nice looking plant
3. kind of bland but nice flavor
4. nice texture when cooked
5. does not bolt in the heat (or so I hear we are just getting hot here)


please share with me about this vegetable what you know do you grow it? how do you prepare or preserve it? How long does it grow? I am going to plant a second round can you save the seeds?

I am so not a fan of the soggy spinich from my childhood that i have not eaten anything spinch related since (cooked) I do love a baby spinch salad with feta and olives and raspberry vingerette. How does it taste uncooked?

I grew it twice. Nice plant, great growth, comes back from seed even when I didn't realize it had seeded itself, good for hot time of year. I've had it raw and cooked. It is fine but not super impressive. I didn't care too much for its sprawling growing habit.

I agree it does sprawl! but I keep cutting it back and eating it ..wondering what the thrill is

really I do not think I will plant it again it is kind of boring ..nice texture ..easy to grow ...harmless but a very boring ..it is nice but boring ..not at all like spinach to me ..

I will try it raw today and see if it has anymore flavor than saute'd

I would not use it to replace spinach in a recipe that is for sure there is no hint of the same flavor

oh well that is probably why there is little response ..it is a boring vegetable!!!

I sure diddnt think mine took off, but I planted it a little later then I should have. I tasted one leaf raw, EWW yucky. But I hate raw spinach too. I cant wait to try it cooked, I am hoping it gives us a change of pace from the chard, which I love but it NEVER STOPS GROWING!
