I just had a telemarketing call from Sam ( heavy indian accent ) saying that I had my computer repaired on July 16 , 2016 that cost me $199. ( I did NOT have my computer repaired on that date, nor in 2016 ) However, they have recently found that the issue was not with my computer, but that it was a Microsoft glitch, and now they want to refund the $199 to me... what is your credit card number ? I told him to just mail me the check .... C L I C K !!! :he :caf

There are apparently several "Microsoft" scams. I've had three variations, two of which were live calls, also with an Asian Indian accent. One of those said that Microsoft had detected that my operating system was corrupted, and offered to repair the problem at no charge. I asked the caller, "so if you can see my computer, what processor am I using?" He hung up. Another call stated that Microsoft had detected a virus in my computer, and I was risking a lawsuit unless I allowed them access to remove the virus. I wasn't in the mood to play that day, and just hung up.

The latest scam (which started yesterday) is a robocall, stating that my Microsoft registration has expired, and unless I renew through them, all of my files & photos will be lost (which is obviously a falsehood). The new twist? Scam callers have often used spoofing (false caller ID numbers) to conceal their identity. This newest scam is spoofing my own number back at me!!! They have called 4-5 times just today, DW won't even walk over to the phone any more when it rings. :somad

Oh, and I nearly forgot the call from "the FBI", stating that my computer was infecting the network, and I would be fined unless I gave them access. I told them to send me the fine, I'll pay it directly at the local FBI office. Strangely, they have yet to arrest me.

So many scams now, with increasing creative & coercive methods.

We had a scammer hi jack our company email addresses. If I don’t pay $812, they are going to forward to others about porno sites I supposedly frequent. Company IT took care of it.

A man writes a column in out local paper and he frequently writes about what he calls "phone creatures." He has fun with them, talking about family issues, funerals, going fishing, calling them by his cousins name and keeps rambling on and on until they hang up on him.

Robocalls or actually human? I might have fun with a human but robots I just hang up on.

A Dr I know got a call from the electric company, they where turning her electric off that day unless she made a payment. only thinking about keeping lights on she made a payment over the phone. Once they had her information they got into her bank account and stole money. She was very embarrassed falling for the scam willn't tell me how much they stole.

I got a call the other day that the US Treasury had a warrant out for my arrest. I just laughed and hung up. Since then, I have gotten 3-4 calls per day from numbers all over the US. Sad thing is, all our phones are on the national & Texas do not call list. Have been for years.

Ditto. The "do not call lists" have so many exceptions that they are nearly worthless, IMO. And of course, the robo-calling (isn't that supposed to be illegal now?) and the scammers just call anyway. Between all of those, I'm getting more calls now each day than when I first signed up for "do not call". Thankfully all of the political calls will be gone after next week.

Last evening , my wife received the same call from US Treasury ( IRS ) call saying that they also have a warrant for her arrest. She told the scammer that she works for the IRS ( and she does, indeed ) The scammer hung up FAST.
