Johnny's Seed has a new zucchini variety, @ninnymary . "Excellent disease resistance package with reduced spines." Payload :)

The catalog has not arrived in the mailbox yet but today's email from Johnny's tells of some of what will be new in 2017.

Payload joins Dunja as being more gardener-friendly than most. Dunja is described: "Open plants and short spines make for an easy harvest."

Thanks Steve, I'll have to look at that one. Hope the plant is not too big. I'll have to also check shipping for 1 packet of seeds. If it's too high, I might just have you picky back it on your order and have you mail it to me, haha. ;)

A packet of seeds is $4.10 and shipping is $4. That's why I never order seeds online. :( I refuse to pay $8.10 for a packet of seeds!

Did you see Spineless Perfection? Boy, all those summer squashes look soooo beautiful!

I did see the Spineless ...

The disease resistance caught my attention and that could be a big added plus for the new variety.

It looks like this new one is now available in the 3 catalogs that I usually order from :).

I saw one that had some resistance to powdery mildew. That is great. I forgot which one it was. Will have to go back when I have more time.

Baker Creek has one that is open bush type and spineless. Boy were they wrong. It had spines! I was so disappointed with it.

Mary, a few local stores in my area now order from Johnny's & will ship to their store for nothing extra. i haven't ordered from Johnny's in a few years because their shipping for seeds is based on dollar amount when other seed companies have been doing a flat rate for seeds or in the case of FedCo-free over $30!

if you have some other seeds you see are only through Johnny's i can ask the greenhouse to order them & i can send you some seeds to try.
