You know, sometimes I think the northern gardeners kind of overwhelm the southern gardeners on the forum at this time of year . . . It may be all the wailing and grinding of teeth in the face of northern extreme weather.

And you know what else? My gardens are farther north than any in Maine ;). Oh, it doesn't mean much to live almost on top of the 48th parallel. Over near the Pacific, those gardeners at this latitude are dang near zone 8 for their winters!

I'd like to know if most of the Canadian population live below 49 North latitude. In southern Ontario and Quebec . . . Anyway, we all know that really, really, it must be challenging to be a gardener throughout most of Canada.

Here are some links to gardening blogs run by Canadian gardeners. Right now, they are all about snow and pussy willow buds and trips, last summer :):

And, before the southern gardeners jump on me:

I understand that it is also challenging to face southern summers. And, tropical hurricanes!

It is challenging, for multiple reasons, to garden anywhere - I suspect.

It is just that parts of the US are having such a difficult time breaking loose from ol' man winter this year . . .

Almost done with my WEATHER ALTERING SATELLITES!

WAS1 is slated for launch October 2014. It's my invention of the large mylar umbrella, only 5 miles wide used to cool off areas suffering heat wave or drought.

WAS2 is due for launch November 2014. This one is a 5 mile wide reflecting mylar mirror designed to reflect extra sunlight, to be directed at areas to protect them from killing frost and to save crops.

I have been working on these two satellites feverishly in my mad scientist dungeon for quite some time now! Ensuring stability of mylar in the environment of a 200 mile high earth orbit was only the first hurdle. Getting the proper motor to open a 5 mile wide umbrella was quite the problem too, BUT THE REAL PROBLEM was the gearing system for the motor to the umbrella opener. THIS SYSTEM IS FAR TOO COMPLEX FOR EVEN MY NEANDERTHAL MIND! What I did was create a very large and powerful reciprocating gear to push and press pull up and down a very large FARMALL type jack to open the umbrella.

You don't think that blasting several tons of plastic discs into an earth orbit to reflect sunlight and decrease solar heating over select areas of the earth's surface would be simpler, Marshall?

Generally, shooting petroleum in various directions has been a standard answer for most of modern human needs . . .

You know, if it can't be grown it has to be mined or "mine." If there is control over these mirrors/sunshades and I have control over them . What do you say to an investment consortium? Naturally, you can go ahead and we will just take over at some point in the future. Hot hostility or cool hostility - the choice is all yours :p.

Absolutely CatJac! One of the planned events will be the creation of cloud systems by heating the surface layers of small parts of the ocean, followed by brief cooling of the clouds as they pass over areas in need of moisture.

Scientific research by the fishermen has shown that an added bonus of this is many fish will grow more rapidly in a flux temperature system.

One of the many hurdles is that these 5 mile wide reflectors and umbrellas are only a small test system, and will necessarily be used at first on an experimental basis. The plans for 1,000 mile wide systems are being made by the chief mad scientist in some very old castle in Transylvania. I am not sure what is going on there, but there is a certain concern...

Gee Wiz Marshall, you better rethink this ... your mad Neanderthal experiment will surely wreak havoc on Al Gore's carbon credit scheame ! Too, by heating the surface layers of the oceans, this will create much more FOG over Cal. that is known for 100 car crashes , and will increase the fog dencity in Washington / Oregon too. ( currently what they call as heavy fog in Wash./ Ore. is known as light fog in Cal.) Heaven help us ! Then with all this fog , the Big Foot kids in your back yard won't have any sunshine to play in so will get lost in the thick fog when they go to find some sun in Lost Wages. Since they will be lost in the heavy fog near Lake Tahoe, so they will stumble into Reno where people will run out of the casinos in panic and then overwhelm the Salt Lake surface as they run onto that water surface. Whith all than human waight on the water surface will cause the underlying water to spread out over the Salt flats making the lake that much more salty and expose the once covered sand. And the biggest tragety will be that when Wiley Coyote tries to catch Roadrunner he will be hit on his head with his own safe. :ca
