Early this morning hubby called me to come quick, ha, I don't move quick that early in the morning. Anyways, by the time I got to the kitchen and looked out the window there they were, a pair of Bald Eagles sitting in our Robinia tree. By the time I went and got my camera one had flown off but we managed to get this one before it flew away. Had lots of other neat birds in this tree but this is the first time we've ever seen Eagles. If only I could move quicker I would have a picture of the pair sitting side by side :(.

:thumbsup

I have a dead tree killed in an ice storm several years ago that hawks, vultures and even owls on cloudy days like to roost in. It's across the road in a pasture across from my front porch. Earlier this summer we saw a bald eagle roosting there. A few days later I saw one flying up our valley. There is supposed to be a nest not that far from here but those are the only two times I've recognized a bald eagle in this valley.

Is your home close to the ocean, AfterMidnight?

I know, Vancouver Island is surrounded by the Pacific but it is ... let's see ..

. over 60 miles wide and nearly 300 miles long!

Steve
that's 100 km by 460 km ;)

@digitS' , really close :). Just across the street from our house is a little nature park.

the mouth of Chase River (really just a stream especially in the summer). Around the bend it empties into the Strait of Georgia, now renamed part of the Salish Sea.

When the tide comes in the banks flood up to the trees, our house is just across the street behind these trees. Since amalgamation we are now in the city but when we first moved here it was rural and in the regional district. Yep, taxes went up and we payed more for everything :(.

I don't know why it is so thrilling to see a bald eagle, but it sure is. Annette, maybe they will be back to visit you often.

Is anyone watching the nest-cam of the bald eagle pair in Florida? One of the two eggs hatched this morning, I believe. The other was laid about 3 days after the first. I don't have the web address, but it shouldn't be hard to find if you want to see it.

They stop in Peru, IN for about 6 weeks in March. Farmer has counted up to 39 on drives. They are impressive.
