We went to our last training class last evening. Penny did well. She can do all the things required of her, but not for long, haha. She has a hard time Staying very long, and is a little too interested in the other dogs to just ignore them when she walks by them. She knows how to leave something alone, and walks much better on her leash; that was the main concern I had--she was too hard to walk. But I am happy with what we learned, and we will keep working on the stay command. I have a lot of respect for the trainer. She seems very well educated and kind. There is a picture on the wall of her with Cesar Milan. I think she did some training under him.
Penny has been going to daycare there one day per week, and really seems to enjoy being with a pack of dogs. She comes home exhausted from running and playing all day. (Insert pic of happy dog here)

Congrats on your (and Penny's) graduation! Keep up the good work and Penny will become all the great dog/family member you hoped for when you brought her home.

That was quick! Congratulations to you and give that dog a bone! :)
Wasn't it fun? I always had such a good time when I took one of our dogs through a class. It's so much more motivating to work them when you know you have some accountability, and it doesn't hurt to be a teensy bit competitive too. :D I always wanted my dog to be top in the class...

It was fun, thistle! But there was one little dog there that was very unruly, and the mom was allowing her little daughter do the handling. It posed a problem, for us all, and the trainer could see that. She finally told the mom to do the handling, and let the little girl watch. (Mom was busy on her cell phone while the dog disrupted everything.) Of course, I know the dogs have to learn to deal with distraction, but still....

Sad, isn't it? Our time with them when they are little just flies by, but I see so many young parents these days with their eyes glued to their phones instead of to their children. My own child is like that...and denies being that way. :he

Has the most beautiful, charming, sweet little girl a person could want but would rather stare into that phone or tablet, even when she is sitting on his lap.

Congratulations on your graduation!!! :woot

I'm still in training mode and not getting much time to be consistent right now, so am lagging behind what I wish I could have accomplished by now.

Bee, I think that's one of the "duties" of grandparents, and one we do willingly, is just to be there to listen to the children, with full attention. Parents may not have or give the time, but grandparents can, and do.

That's what's great about grandparents living close enough to grandkids to pick up the slack and be accessible.
I wish I had been able to hang out with mine more often than just vacation times when we traveled to visit them..

I agree! I LOVE spending time with her and showing her all the little things, watching her every discovery...it's fascinating.

She and I have great fun together and have formed our own private little world because of it. What a true gift from God she is...to bring such fun and wonder into my life at this point, just when one thinks they've pretty much seen and done nigh everything, along comes this little mystery to be discovered. :love

I was very lucky, when I was 10 years old my grandparents move into a apartment in my parents house. I got to see them everyday till i turned 18 and moved out. I still miss them after many years.
