My husbands friend is a long time country farmer well he said he put his okra seed in the freezer then soaked them in water for about an hour before he planted them and now they are up....I have never done this but have any of you all? or would you try it? I am seriously thinking about it....he says it fools the seeds to think it is warmer in the dirt than it really is so they grow....

I always soak my okra seed in water 24-48 hours before planting them. They do like hot weather and warm soil so it will be a few more weeks before I plant mine this year. :)

Think I'll try that freezer method. I planted okra a week or so ago and not warm enough to come up. I like to get a jump on okra so I can have it as quick as possible. Sounds like a good way to trick those seeds!

Okra seed has a hard shell so it takes a while for the moisture to get through. taking a three corner file and nicking the seed coat almost all the way through helps them germinate faster.
