I have a garden in a brand new spot. A few weeks after planting, I went to empty the ash bucket from my building that had been sitting about 2/3 full from the last of the winter woodstove fires. I thought it could potentially help the garden some so I went to toss it here and there in the garden and much to my embarassment, it all came out on the first toss. I uncovered the two new squash plants that it landed on and rinsed them with a little water. I just left the ash there and now those two are the biggest of all my squash plants. One is considerably bigger than the rest of the other smaller plants. The other is a mammoth of a plant. I've heard of people using ashes in their garden, but after my bucket dump, I thought those two plants would die for sure. Are they just better plants, or did the ash give them a turbo boost? I must add that after 3 years of trying and failing, this is my first garden that is doing well. I'm pretty new to this stuff. Any advice or thoughts are welcomed!

My only thought is that I'm going to go home and dump some ash on my garden!!!! I've heard that it's good for the plants, too, but have never tried it. What a happy accident!!!!!
