Some of my onions have sent up flower stalks, do I cut them off? Are the onions still going to be good for eating? How about storing? I've never had this happen before...

I have let some of my onions go to seed/flower. The bees really enjoy this flower, and I save seeds for the following year from them... You can go ahead and cut them off, and harvest the onion as usual. I don't have a lot of luck with onions as real keepers, so I can't answer that question. Were these onions planted this season, or did they winter over? I have had only had onions left in the ground for winter, flower.

I think 80's is normal for Texas- and hot for onions! Is this the first time you have had this happen?

Yes, it's only my second year growing onions, but it didn't happen last year. I went out and pulled them off, luckily it was only 6 plants out of about 300.
