Mine are way late. I planted a few in April and then got sick. May 14 is when I planted most of mine and then a week ago a few more. I saw farmer friend's garden today and their onions are huge. Their potato plants I had to look and look. I thought maybe tomato plants. Very strong and dark green compared to my potatoes. They planted kale very early and the plants are very strong. They are in their 80s. She showed me where she weeded her onions today, so I went home and weeded potatoes. lol They have DS helping bale hay and loading in barn. I hope I can get around like that in my 80s.

I would sure pick their brain and find out how they do it and when they plant. How neat to have a successful gardener near you to learn from.

I think they just planted so early and I had a late start. He is just an old farmer. He spreads leaves and manure and tills and his wife had a fit he always planted the corn in the same spot. I am not sure if he uses chemical fertilizer and I bet he does because he kills weeds in other spots on his property with Roundup, but I don't think he uses things like that in his garden. They are always pulling weeds, using small tiller in rows.
