I have three packets of snow peas that I never planted. I know they are supposed to be planted in spring, but can I plant them in the fall? Our weather has cooled off, thank goodness!

Joan, I have often planted Oregon Sugar Pod peas the last week of July. That isn't fall but I've picked pea pods off those vines when they have been covered with frost in October.

Let's see . . . we are 6 weeks after the end of July . . . think you will have frost before mid-November?

If not, I think that planting those peas would be a good idea :)! One thing -- you are using the pods, they don't have to take the time to develop seeds to be useful. You can also try the tendrils if cool weather starts slowing things down too much by November. The ones with a pretty pea blossom on them are at just the right stage of tender sweetness ;).

In your area I shold think they would do better in Fall than in Spring. Here in San Diego I haven't even planted mine yet. I'll probably get them in about the first week of October.

Excellent! Thanks for the replies. Steve, yes our first frost date is the middle of November, but who knows when it will be with this crazy hot weather we've had. I just check the NOAA and we are supposed to be back to 100 today and 101 tomorrow!!!! :barnie I guess I shouldn't be surprised as it's not uncommon to wear shorts and flip flops on Thanksgiving Day! Think I'll plant peas today. :)
