I have a windowbox of pansies still looking good in July. I don't remember them ever lasting this far in to summer. In the past when hot weather set in they got leggy and dried up. Whats the longest you keep them going in to summer?

I know I don't count but I once had them growing year round. They looked pretty good but I finally got tired of them and pulled them out.

The first year the grands planted a children's garden with pansies, they lasted from planting in spring to frost in fall. In the spring they were back again. Of course, that was a very cool and rainy summer with only one day above 80°(F).

If I put them in a spot where they get some afternoon shade they will usually last all summer here. Cutting them back if they get leggy and keeping them watered well will push some falls blooms if the summer gets real warm.

I quit planting them when the rabbit population went up. No rabbits lately, I wish I could remember to start the seed in February. o_O

Wait a minute!

I thought only Mary had summers like that!

I found them easy to start indoors but probably about a 70% loss each year, until they are gone ... DW wants something different and I haven't convinced her that they are best for early color in the shade. Much better choice than impatiens here. Those plants have blooms that shrivel in the heat and dryness.

I found in early spring pansies can take light frost, impatiens never . Both window boxes are in high traffic areas. When they start gettng tired looking from heat I replace.

Mine from this spring are still going too. They are in part shade. I think they'll keep 'til fall.
