i have a large established vine and it is kinda over growing. it is mid autum now and wondering if i should prune it when the frost are coming

can i prune the edges to stop the growing ends from growing and prune the lower hal of the vine to the air flow or should i leave it till spring. fruit is still ripening at the moment

I have had a passion fruit plant for about 6 years now and I've never gotten any fruit from it, all I get is a hollow large grape sized thing but never any fruit. Do they produce fruit, and if so what am I doing wrong?

Trunkman,What you eat in passion fruit is the pulp surrounding the seeds. It sounds as though you may have the wild American passion vine which produces very little pulp and is hollow, as you described. The flowers are pretty and worth growing for that alone but for eating you need one of the tropical varieties which will take very little cold. There have been a few cultivars developed that are sort of cold resistant but only the wild American variey can stand hard winters.

Thanks Hoodat, I think you might be right, at least I can enjoy the flowers and pretty vine and foliage. :)

This article from New Zealand should help you. At least it is the correct side of the equator so the seasons match.

i think hoodat is right as well, differnet species. if you want fruit, aim for P. edulis (best tasting in my opinion) . but many species are edible, some not. i am a fan of P. foetida whih i think of as thumbnail passion fruit. thin skin, grape size, ok flavor. they are weedy so i often eat them when i hike around the tropics or on our farm here while i work.
