Hahaha... I did the same thing because I'm tried of shelling peas alone!!!

I did plant a while ago, and mine are over a foot high already. I don't see any flowers starting yet. How old and big are yours?

I love to shell peas. Some happy memories are of visiting "the old folks" and pulling up a chair on the porch, getting a big washpan and shelling peas, butter beans or whatever they were doing. It was impolite not to grab a pan and start shelling. Gossip, peas, good company on a hot summer afternoon...........

Still waiting on mine... my Dh always complains about shelling- I don't mind it all. He grew up in a big family, and I guess they had to shell billions and billions of peas for one family dinner (or at least that is how he remembers it!) Can't wait for peas out of the garden.

There you go, MontyJ!

I'll get to the shell peas in a week or so but planted snap & snow peas today.

Around here, there are a lot of Oregon grape (Mahonia). It seems about right that when those yellow flowers are just beginning to open, it is the right time to start planting peas. Umm, that was about a week ago .

Mine went in the ground about 10-12 days ago or so. They are only about an inch tall. Now this morning we had a very hard frost. The peas should be fine, but I think the lettuce is history. I did get all of the asparagus cut yesterday evening though :D Even had some with dinner!

Peas aren't heavy vines, DL. Of course, it depends on how tall they get and how strong your fence is.

I have tried for years to grow peas on string . . . and, I'm still trying!

Most sane people grow peas on something like a wire fence.

What variety are you growing? My Little Marvels don't really need any support but some can really use it.

The worst part of shelling peas is it takes all day for one meal. But the taste cannot be beat. We really love sugar snap peas too. But, they must be de-stringed.
