I have a large patch of the usual geranium red snowball type pelargoniums in my entry way. Apparently the sneaky little devils have been dropping seeds that sprouted and like most fancy strains the seedlings reverted to the wild Pelargonium Australe. I don't know about you but I like the wild form better. It almost looks like an orchid and I love those little faces they have. They look like a pansy that just got goosed. :ep

I love Pelargoniums and geraniums. Very pretty pic!

I just bought some root tone (expensive!!!) and want to root some slips. They don't overwinter here, and I don't want to spend money on them every spring. Never tried this before tho...

Pelargoniums and geraniums root so easily that you seldom need Rootone. You can always do it the old fashioned way and cut some willow shoots to soak in water and use that water on the pots, or if you like to root in water, just add a couple of willow shoots in the same jar. Willow puts off an enzyme tht aids other plants to root. That's the way it was done in the old time nurseries pre Rootone.

Willow shoots from willow trees? Gosh, its so dry up here in the Sierra Foothills, I don't think I'll be able to find a willow tree. But thanks for the advice - I'd rather try it the old fashioned way than have spent 7 bucks on a btl of root tone. :)

You should be able to find willows around streams or cattle watering ponds. Anywhere there is year round water. If there's water there, willows will find it.
