People Can Be So Foolish

A client bought her King Charles Cavalier in for grooming today. She asked for bows in the dogs ears, did not mention any color. I returned her dog with 2 purple bows, she curled her lip and said really purple . I said of course no other color would do for a King Charles, purple is the color of royalty. She smiled gave groomer big tip and left happy . I swear people can be such fools.

My husband and I owned a furniture store. Women would fall in love with a mattress, exclaim how wonderful and comfortable it was, then want it in another color. They had fits over the mattress fabric cover colors. One woman in particular just rubbed me the wrong way when she demanded another color and I told her it only came in that color. She said in a nasty tone that she didn't want it. I asked her if she planned to put a mattress cover on it, sheets and a bedspread, or did she plan on sleeping on the bare mattress with no sheets. In an even nastier tone she let me know in no uncertain terms that of course she would put sheets and a bedspread on it. Then I asked her if she slept in the dark with her eyes closed. She demanded. "What's that have to do with anything?" To which I responded, "What color is the mattress you have NOW?" She stammered and stuttered and finally got out, "I don't know." I smiled sweetly and asked, "You don't know? Then why is the color of THIS one so important?" The hag told me that she would know the color was under the sheets. I laughed in her face and she stormed out. Good riddance.

A man came in to buy a mattress set and the one he liked was pink. Real pink. He also asked if it came in another color and I said no and pointed out that he would put sheets and covers on it and sleep in the dark with his eyes closed. So the big, burly, macho, man's man bought the pink mattress set.

@thistlebloom Also reasonable although I would really have to like the mattress to go with pink..... I would have found a suitable mattress that wasn't pink.

Ya know, people who do not work in a service industry every day can be MEGA critical and downright stupid. I have had people complain at loan signings about my "cheap" pens for instance. I am expected to provide them at MY own expense, black or blue and the ink always has to match or their loans may not fund, and SOME states demand a particular color ink. I also provide the paper, the printer and the toners (and drums), all at MY expense. Some would say get a better job, but I sacrifice to make these closings work and I frosts me to hear picciune criticisms. I hate pink, but if you had groomed my dog and put pink bows on her I WOULDN'T complain bc that is cruel to ask you to bite your tongue after you work hard to please and the client didn't communicate.
MY REVENGE is raising my rates and many times a refused rate is accepted a few days later when the company cannot find anybody else willing to travel to these rural towns. Fussy and rush jobs should always cost $more.
I also have some advice for those who are starting a small business. If you want to lose a friend, trade services. It hasn't happened to us bc the people that have wanted free legal services in the past were not really friends but users, and they have taught us the hard way to not do this. DH was tempted to want to trade services with our Vet, but we do not. We charge her for legal services, she charges us for Vet services and we both pay full price and get along great. Somebody is the trade always feels put upon and the relationship is strained.

I have great luck trading services, but I don't worry about equal penny for penny trade. This weekend I am getting back a Larkin desk I bought for$100 on CL it is being refinish free. From photos it is now worth about $1,800.

@ducks4you I get where you are coming from, don't disagree. But I would give @Nyboy a hard time over pink. He would expect it and be waiting for it. You see he would be baiting me just to get a smile....thinking he had one over me. Now I would do it in private as some would not get the humor.... but next time he put pink on my dog, I'd get the people in waiting room to join me in harassing him. Don't really hate pink, just enjoy harassing @Nyboy, and others.
