I have a bumper crop of peppers. Giant Big Berthas and more. I kept passing by these skinning red peppers thinking they were full of heat and not really liking fire in my food. I decided to taste them and they are sweet. Looked at the tag and they are seed sent to me by Hotpepperqueen called Fushimi. Long skinny sweet peppers. I can't wait to roast them. Put them in my pasta sauce last night! Thanks Queen!
My Anchos are supposed to be mildly hot but have no heat. I don't really mind.
And Queen, you send me Floradade tomato seeds, too. They must have 50 lbs. of perfect tomatoes on each plant. Thanks!

I've grown Fushimi, Cat'! It was delicious in stir-fry.

I've read that many non-hot peppers can be a little hot if the weather is stressful for the plants. Seemed to be true with Fushimi. Hot or sweet, they should dry well. I should grow them again for smoking. That smoked paprika in the soopermarket is really expensive!

Great gardening success! (50 lbs. of perfect tomatoes on each plant??!)

Great harvest @catjac1975 ! Thanks for the info, Fushimi sounds like one I would like to try.

Big Bertha has done well for me this year also, others have been slow to ripen. Bell Boy has been pretty good, and I have jalapenos coming on faster than I can can them!

I don't know about each plant. I have 20 or so varieties. My favorite is Oxheart. Huge, meaty and sweet. I have made so much sauce I don't know is I can face any more picking.I have a friend who comes to pick but, I don;t see a dent in the harvest. I think I may take a day off from sauce. Made stuffed peppers with the big berthas last night. soooo good.

My peppers have been disappointing. Bananas are doing well. Green peppers-terrible, more plants than peppers. Jalapeño really slow, my dependable gypsies are bad, and pablanos almost non existant.

@seedcorn you have amazing garden abilities. I bet you're the only gardener in Indiana who can grow bananas! I salute you!

Something I'm getting in the pepper patch this year is *ripe* peppers!

Now, if the plants had a few more leaves so many of them would not be sun scalded ... If they had a few more leaves that would mean that the plants had grown a little more and maybe they would have a few more peppers! I feel like I'm throwing away half the crop.

As far as I can tell, it's all my fault. This hot summer after a slightly warmer than usual June was something I could have taken advantage of. Instead, I went the lazy route of not taking the flowers off the plants when they were set out. Mistake.

I did leave Carmen alone to see if she would ripen a nice carmine red and, she does! 2 previous years I harvested all the Carmen with the other Italian Sweets ... green. Of course, those peppers are ripening red this year, too!
