On Johnny's Select Seeds mailing, they talk about planting fall crops to be harvestable during the Persephone Period. Not knowing what this was, but suspecting it was the darkest days of winter, I found after googling it that Persephone is the goddess of vegetation, and she is doomed to go to Hades to be with her husband during the two months of winter darkness; when there is less than 10 hours of daylight each day. While she is gone, growth stops. So there! (Clearly, I was out of class on the prom committee when we covered Greek mythology in high school)
When is the Persephone Period in your area? I found it for my area by using the almanac calendar we get from a local bank. It is November 18 to January 24. (approximately)

Like many gardening tips, I suspect this harvestable period is partial to warmer climes. Around here, anything even near those dates is frozen solid by our Persephone Period. Okay, some Novembers are warmer than others, but it is usually too cold for harvesting.

I use a Persephone 6CX by Appletree and the little lady inside tries to answer all my questions. My Persephone contract has unlimited text and unlimited weeds in the garden. I'm having trouble finding 9G ( "G" for garden) service out here in the boonies so, consequently the weeds have taken over in the 9G areas.

Seriously I have never heard of Persephone either but I have had good luck with some Brussels sprouts in December as well as carrots.
