Yea, Black Bear pulled out the passenger window of me truck ~ broke the mirror, tore out the center console ~ I wanted to **** the son of a Bearch ~ I may yet ```

Took pictures but, not easy to get the pics from the phone to this computer ~ anyway, seems like he, the bear, took the magg ~ that goes to my 10-22 with him ~ I had just been to the range, had the mag in the console ~ never found it, they're small but ~ I don't think he could have eaten it, it was the metal kind not the poly ```

I once chased a black bear through the woods in Canada, because it was trying to become a trash bear. We were both young and did not realize what we were doing.

It was fortunate that you both survived the experience. We had black bears on my Grandfather's property, there was even a bear den beneath a huge boulder in the woods. We had to be cautious in Spring, or when picking wild berries; but for the most part, I never felt threatened by them... I was young then too.

I did have a good scare once, though. The long gravel driveway into the 280 acre property had large boulders which had been pushed to the side of the road, and a small hill about 1/2 way. My younger brother was walking down the road, and I hid behind one of the boulders, with the intent to scare him. As he approached, I did my best imitation bear growl, which IMO is actually pretty good. It worked, my brother took off running. I didn't have much time to laugh though... as I heard twigs snapping behind me, and a low growl. I didn't waste any time following behind my brother. Grandfather chewed me out, said I was lucky the bear didn't follow.

my only experiences with bears were up north when fishing and walking the streams and one time we went to a dump to watch them pick through the trash (the dump was eventually closed). we did not generally see them in the woods, but would hear them at times at a distance and see signs that they'd been in the area and passing through. the fishing buddy always carried a large hand gun to scare them off if needed but we never had to resort to using it.

only one bear has been reported around here in years and no signs of it around here on our little spot of erf.

what i'm curious about is what in the world a bear would find inside a truck to be worth digging for or tearing into a console. did you keep food in there?

Black Bear kill quite a few people and animals ~ it is covered up, very little is said about it ```

Haha! Being a southern boy I have always known cattle and horses to have a smooth fur coat here in the heat. On Kodiak island however, breeds of both grow very shaggy coats. My brother was on the other side of a salmon stream near the coast guard base. We were working the pink salmon run. I too heard twigs breaking by a heavy creature and glimpsed a brown fur in the brush behind me. My bro fell over laughing when I hollered and ran. He had already seen the cow.

Yes, have to admit there was a handful of dog food in the truck ~ that wasn't bright, I should have known better ~ but I still don't forgive that bear ~ seems to also have taken the mag to my 10-22 ~ I had been to the range, that's kinda crazy, they're small but he couldn't have eaten it ~ in any case, haven't found it ~ bummer ```

is there a chance that someone broke into your truck and then the bear came along later and got the dog food?

Nope. The bear did the deed all the signs are there~ pulled the window out he did ```

I'm glad that we don't have bears here. Are you allowed to shoot them if they are destroying your property? We do have cougars here, but they stay well hidden. Last year, a cougar killed 5 goats about a mile from us and was heard screaming on the property next to us, the dogs were going nuts. It hung around for a couple of weeks and hasn't be seen or heard since.
