DW thinks that my jack o'lantern pies will be fine . . .

I felt like arguing that I should use one of the purchased  Buttercup squash. We already ate our 2 (count 'em) Buttercup squash and don't trust the last Marina De Chioggia squash. The Marina De Chioggia were even more bland than the jack o'lanterns! (I think they really failed to mature :/.)

Grandma's apple pie recipe is out since it uses 2 crusts and gluten-avoiding DD will have to be scooping the pumpkin pie off its crust :p.

What's on your recipe stand today??!

Steve :)

Ah but doesn't that use wheat flour?

Seems like you can make things like that with corn flakes, too. But, alas, she isn't supposed to eat corn either :/.

Howsomeever! I just learned that Bisquick makes a gluten-free pancake mix! They have quite a few recipes for simple desserts on their website. I've already gotten the word out to DD -- hoping that she will take some of this responsibility into her own hands. After all, she's the one making the trip to the MD with the hives :/.

Hey wait! there's a Gluten Free Bisquick Apple Crisp recipe!

Digit, you have gluten free members of the family? We're all gluten - intolerant and celiac here! If you want I can get you some of ma's recipes. She has a whole treasure trove of them, all gluten/corn/potato free! She has plenty for pie crusts also!

Oh Gosh, TheSeedObsessor!

She didn't say anything about potatoes!

Well, except for visits she hasn't lived here for the last 7 or 8 years. She's close and stops in unexpectedly. Of course, T-day isn't unexpected. I will try to keep in mind some of these health problems she has been newly diagnosed with. Still, Mom's apple pie is traditional and there are others. She's gonna have to eat around the stuffing. Personal responsibility and all of that . . . .

She had asthma as a kid but, supposedly, out-grew it as an adult. Always, problems with respiratory allergies and I'm really hoping that this food-avoidance will have a benefit there. We will see.

She's a busy lady and tomorrow is a good day to talk about food with her. I'll try to learn what resources she has to draw on. Thank you for your offer :).

Surely you don't intend to just skip the stuffing altogether?!? I think there is a federal law against that.

Skip stuffing! :ep

Ma makes nice gluten free/ corn free stuffing. It has rice in it... and it tastes great but may take some getting used to if your on the transition, maybe.

That's one of those 3D printers isn't it? I can't get how those work. Even more mind - boggling is how they can print working human organs. Something creepy 'bout that. :hide

About the potatoes - we're allergic to those here. I figured since she had the corn/ gluten allergy she may have more allergies hiding behind the others. We can not eat anything from the nightshade family (tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, peppers, and the list goes on!) unless it was grown by us, those seem to be OK as long as we don't eat a lot. When we eat veggies from the nightshade family, all of our stomachs swell up to make all of us look pregnant, and pa's psoriasis flares up.

I was tested positively tested for an egg allergy when I was about the age of six. I have eaten eggs my entire life and continue to eat dozens a week, without any bad affects. I didn't have a good doctor though.

Pies are out of the oven!

I will make the stuffing tomorrow early. I've even got a recipe for that (being forced back to it by the family after trying some nifty alternatives :/). If we could eat plastic maybe those 3D printers could be in every home - plate presentation is everything ;).

Gravy is gonna take so thought because I've never made it without either wheat flour or corn starch. It may just be another thing DD will have to avoid on her own. However, I do have some rice flour, so . . . .
