I have two beds of asparagus, second year. As noted in a previous post, happy they made it through winter. But...those little spears really are not filling up the entire garden. Can I plant anything else, that won't bother the roots?? Maybe annuals in between the rows? You know I can't stand seeing dirt, without anything growing!!!

I've never really thought of this, but maybe plant beans? That way you could be adding nitrogen to the soil, which I'd imagine would help out the asparagus for next year. Just an idea....

Maybe what Kate said... I have NO idea. I dug mine up to see there were no roots any longer... the voles got them. So I built a bed over where mine were supposed to be.

I have had no patience with asparagus this season.

Maybe someone with more knowledge will come along and help... but I like the idea of beans or peas maybe?!
