I just received my Nanking Bush Cherry plants. The plants look to have a good root stock and are about 2' long.

I'm running short on planting soil but I remembered I have a large block of coir (coconut fiber) and am wondering if this can be used as a mixture with the potting soil in lieu of mulch.

:welcome stano40 !

Yes, coconut fiber should be fine for mulch, i'm not sure if you could use it in place of potting soil though.
I have a nanking cherry tree that bloomed its first year for me, so looking for fruit from it soon, if i get any i'll comment on how they taste. I have just one tree but their suppose to be self-pollinating.

I got mine from Henry Field's seed and nursery catalog. They send you 3 root stocks about 12" to 18" long for around $10.00.

I'm glad I can use the coir, I wasn't sure if they would grow well with it.

I'm thinking of starting them off in a medium pot and replant when they get bigger. I'm not sure how they would survive winter outside here in Maine so I thought of bringing them inside for the winter months.

Thanks

bob
