Have you had one?

I was just relating on the humor thread how the little grandmother, who had a positive influence on me gardening, also discouraged me from "pulling my mouth down" ;). Ha!

I was pleased to see that DW had a 2nd jar of apricot jam for me to enjoy with my purple bread toast and 4-hours-from-rising mug of coffee. I think I influenced her years ago when we had that little apricot tree in one garden and I'd make jam :).

I know I influenced her regarding tomatoes. Yep! When I met her, she would only eat cherries. She was NOT gonna be moved to eat my beefsteak! She didn't care if I called them "Fantastic," "Super Fantastic," or "Earliana," or even "Early Girl," or anything else!

I decided I needed to play around with more varieties of cherries or I'd be in sadly limited ... but then, it also occurred to me that it must not be the size of the beefsteaks she didn't like. So, I began to play around with different colors. Colors are associated with flavonoids. Everybody is interested in flavonoids because many of the flavors of our foods come from them!

I learned that I like tomatoes of colors other-than red! She did, too! In fact, I see her playing around with big, red beefsteaks after all these years! When I was talking with her about the choices I made for the 2016 tomato patch, she says, "I like the great, big ones!" Just like it was the most natural thing in the world, for her to say

. Of course, I pointed out that she would have said no such thing a few decades ago .... I didn't press my luck by saying anything further ... you know how women are.

It's another grey, dreary day. I want us to feel good about ourselves. How about you? Have you had a positive influence on anyone? Any ideas on how others could learn from your experience?

Very simple. We must see the good in everything and appreciate every minute. even if the gray day. You do not need to envy. Being positive, and to solve problems as they become available. At my work, we go to lunch together. Lunch always takes a lot of fun. This positive effect on each other. I come home after all. My coming home it is fun, even if I am chasing them, they laugh. I always think about good and share it. Positive - it's contagious.
If I start to think about the bad, they will be attracted into my life, it is checked. Good play by the same rules. I - the champion of getting into different stories. My sons sometimes ask me, when I grew up? I do not know. Life for me a fascinating quest, and in sorrow and in joy.

I say this humbly, because I'm still so amazed that such a thing has just dropped into my lap, but I am hoping that I can be a positive influence on my little band of garden kids. Not just to give them an interest in growing things, but also on character and why we're here, and why that's important.
My group this year has grown by 3 by the way. There will be ten little gardeners getting dirty this summer. :)

I want to say some things about the responses on this thread.

@Larisa has thoughts that are in every way as inspirational as what we are sharing on @sumi 's thoughts for the day.

@thistlebloom has neighbors sending their children to her for her trusted influence on them.

And, between those posts is @Carol Dee . She is probably the most positive TEG influence we could hope to have here. Her quick response to Journey's message this morning was comforting even for me.
