So, I'm out with the family digging up potatoes (yes, I hurt myself, I knew better and did it anyway)..

I'm tossing potatoes to the DD and hubby was using the shovel to loosen the dirt. A few potatoes roll out and as I'm scooping them I notice one is pretty ugly and grey and wiggly!

It's a VOLE! It's been munching on my potatoes!!!

So I toss it to hubby, and OFF WITH IT HEAD! (Of course, I make DD look the other way.) Then the cat has the nerve to walk over to see whats going on. "I'm doing your job." I tell her.

1 Vole down, and only a 10000 to go.

Oh they are crazy about the potatoes! I had them shooting out like roman candles as I harvested one year. :barnie

Voles are the reason I grew potatoes under a mulch only once!

It seemed like such a good idea to use rain-spoiled alfalfa hay to cover the seed potatoes just lying on the freshly turned soil. The voles must have thought it was very nice of me to put down a thatched roof for them to live under.

I am still willing to hill the plants with compost but that isn't so dry. They no longer have the conditions nor the several months to build a vole metropolis.

Oh man if it not one thing it's 10,000 others lol. Hey you are supposed to be taking it easy, not tossing around potatoes and voles. Don't over do it V...:)
