I am growing 4 potted cucumbers in the basement under lights so I can get some early cukes. I planted them on Jan 1st and this morning, YEAH they are blooming. Here is my question, and I should have thought of this sooner but are cucumbers self pollinating? Last time I checked I didn't have a basement full of busy bees so am I going to need to hand pollinate these? :ep

Everything I've seen is that cucumbers need to be polinated. They have both male and female flowers, if the females doen't get polinated they fall off and no fruit. You could hand polinate and I think you can do that with just a q-tip or something. I've never done that though so I don't know for sure.
Good luck, I personally can't wait for my cukes either I LOVE me some pickles :)

I believe some types are self-pollinating. I think in your circumstances you are going to have to "make like a bee"! Do you have a small artist's paint brush? Here's hoping you didn't plant a couple hundred of these!!
