So, we sometimes really, really ramble off gardening subjects.

Here's a problem. I may have to buy a new printer because it believes it's outta paper.

I may search through the software to see if I have the old disc and just dump the program and reload again but that solution just occurred to me! Any other ideas?

I've done the unplug/wait/plug in again routine. Every word processing, picture, even screen capture program!! ... it only copies now. Only then will it NOT claim that it has no paper resources. It just goes ahead and believes it does and spits out a copy!

How do I make it think for itself and actually check to learn if it has the wherewithal to print something??

Printers are so cheap now days. I hate to say it, but I would just toss it and get a new one.
Having said that, any technical problem I have, I do an internet search for it. Nearly always come up with a solution. Amazingly, my (your) problems are not unique.

Cheap these days? The last two printers were both about $100 each. I thought they were cheap then but wondered about what costs are now. This thing must be about 10 years old.

Online from HP? I hadn't thought of that! Age might be a problem ... no, age of printer, not me! Well, maybe ;).

Hadn't thought of just blowing it out. Shoot. It doesn't (falsely) tell me that the paper isn't there if I just ask it to copy ... brainless and mistaken thing!

Edit: & if I take the paper out, ask it to copy - it will properly tell me it has no paper. Put the paper in, push OK, and it works.

I have an HP Photosmart 2610 (All in one) printer -- with the software. Surprisingly enough, the MAC doesn't need the software installed. It just figures out what I plugged in and goes to work.

Any chance you have an HP 2610? I could send you the software.

No, it's a HP Officejet 4315.

But, you won't believe this! Maybe you will because you are a teacher :).

I turned on the PC - don't use it everyday. I went to the HP site and yep, they have the drivers for the 4315! Turned on the printer, in case it needed to be on. And ... it spit out a page!! The last document I was trying to print! I didn't ask it to, I'm sure it was in the queue but it wasn't working a week+ ago and hadn't thru about a month. It just began printing!

I was reminded of a kid being sent to the principal's office and suddenly he is an obedient little angel! I did nothing! Well, I'll go ahead and update the software. Hope that won't jinx it!

"HP has scanned your product but currently has no suggestions for driver updates."

Wow!

All I needed to do was check in with the problem first with TEG and then with HP! It's fixed.
