and I feel like I'm 80 years old right now. My knees hurt, my feet are cramped, my head hurts and my ears are ringing!!! I really have to remember that I'm getting older and simply can't work from dawn til dusk anymore!

It would have been fine if we had just put in the garden, but I had to mow the yard AND pull Bermuda grass from the garden. My battery was dead on my riding mower, so dear old dad to the rescue again. I borrowed his and got the job done. I still have to run the stinkin' weedeater that I despise - or maybe I won't. Sometimes I dream of an acre parking lot. Anyway, here is what we put in:

broccoli,
red cabbage
brussel sprouts
carrots
beets
komatsuna

I'm going to wait until it is a little cooler to plant spinach and snow peas.

PS - I hate Bermuda grass and ants. :somad :he

Oh! Good job! As horrible as you feel right now, isn't it a great feeling that it's done? Sometimes it seems when I make it a marathon day I seem to accomplish more than if I spread the work out over several days. I think the urgency of crossing everything off my list makes me work smarter, and I have less garden A.D.D.

I'm in complete agreement about ants and bermuda grass Joan!

It sure is cool to see the different fall garden planting dates for the different parts of the country.

Late july for here in barely zone 8 gets the turnips ripe around in october. Got one already to test. A bit small, but good.

Hmmm, I vote for spreading the work out for 2 or 3 days next time.

That's a good days work, S. Gardener! :thumbsup I was in the same boat yesterday, but it was a good kind of achy as I settled into my comfy bed. A big ol' cold front has come through our way, which really makes me feel old. The dog and I both go arthritic. :p

I can sympathize with the getting older. We dug sweet potatoes all morning and I had to wash them all in the afternoon. I sat on a 5 gallon bucket to wash them and as they were washed dropped them into the bucket. I am so SORE that I can hardly move!! A full day of work would not have made me this sore before I went over that 60 mark.

I agree, I hate Bermuda grass!!! Johnson grass!!! Crab grass!!! Goose grass!!! Why won't it stay out of the garden!!

We had turnip greens this week. I also had some new green onions and radishes. My spinach and lettuce have been a no show so replanted.

Why is it that we start out planning on doing only 1 job/thing in the garden and then we continue to do other stuff? But once it's done, it sure feels good! :)

It does feel great to get the job done for sure. I mulched the started plants last night and watered - I noticed that 2 of my broccoli plants were eaten down to the ground! :barnie Looks like a worm is the culprit.

Slugs maybe? They can do a lot of damage in just one night. I had trouble with them eating my young brussel sprouts down to twigs. I put out a bowl of old watermelon wine and drowned like 50 of them. :sick

I've never had slugs - that I've seen anyway. I put DE on them last night and checked them when I got home from work this evening and no more damage.
