I saw one today and I think its a very nice alternative to spending a few hundred dollars on a wooden one. How big do yall think it needs to be? What kinda stuff would grow well on it?

The bigger and stronger it is...the bigger the plants can be grown on it.....probably Roses, Honeysuckle, Trumpet Vine(maybe)....Clematis... smaller ones would be good for beans, sweet peas, all sorts of things...I would love to see photos...

gardeniasandhens,

This year I'm going to try growing some melons on a trellis (honeydew, cantaloupe, and even try watermelons). Last year I feel I wasted too much space and didn't even get a harvest, hopefully on a trellis these melon plants will have a better chance and less disease problems too.
Every year though I grow cucumbers, peas, and all my pole green beans on a trellis, with the space you save with trellises you could grow something else. Works for me! :D
