We built the big raised bed a few months back but I got the dirt Monday evening. There was way too much dirt, SO, my wonderful DH made me another bed 4x8 and we filled it. THEN, there was more dirt and he build me another 4x8. When we finished it he said, "no more beds". Oh well, I have 108 square feet in the big one and 2x 32 more square feet. Maybe one will be herbs and the other cold weather veggies. The large one will be squash, cucumber, and tomato close to the house. He also tilled the large garden but way to early for most things. I may try to plant peas soon. This weird warm weather is really getting to me!! SMILE!!!

Well the beauty of raised beds is that they are easy to cover if you get a cold spell. I am in Ohio an I am putting out lettuce, cabbage and onions next week.

How wonderful!! I know you will love having all those raised beds. I am in upstate NY and just about ready to plant my peas- so you should be ready to go! Can't wait to see pics of the beds full of beautiful plants! Enjoy!

Hey, knock it off Lesa! It's easy to not be jealous of the gardeners in the more southern areas when they are putting their gardens in, but it's totally unfair of you to be planting peas when we're looking at 2 feet of snow! :D

retiredwith4acres, you're gonna love your raised beds! VERY nicely built, too.
I've really enjoyed how the dirt stays loose in mine. Easy to sow, easy to transplant, easy to weed, and easy to harvest.
I had to put some fencing around mine in the early Spring to keep the dogs and cats from running through them and messing up direct sowing and little transplants. On the few occasions when I needed to step in them I put down a couple of those rubber, rectangular knee gardener's pads to distribute the weight. At the end of the season I did step into my okra bed to get 'em all.
