I think I've finally found a better way to remove dirt from clothing.

I bet I coulda found a better way if I woulda dun I little experimenting. I shoulda! Instead, I used Spray and Wash. After deciding that didn't work so great, I switched to Oxy Clean.

Shoot. My old jeans would get dirt stains on dirt stains! Soil is mineral based. Maybe that was why the cleaners worked poorly.

About.com says to rub liquid detergent into the fabric. I've got powdered detergent so I just ran hot water into the machine, enough to cover the clothing, and with plenty of soap. On pre-wash with no rinsing, the clothes sit in the machine overnight. The next morning, I just wash as usual. Don't even need to use the "heavy duty" setting and can rub a little shampoo into my hat, and toss that in too!

Simple. Why didn't I try this before?!

Wow, I am going to do this with some of my stains....

About that hat...you may be able to throw it in if it's not a straw hat... LOL

i am proud of my stains and thread bare shirts and shorts, i believe it's a rite of passage being a gardener... if you look like something from GQ or Martha while working your not working in the garden... dirt stains is required ......

Amen, brotha...preach it! :D If mine get too grotesque, I then start wearing them inside out so I can use up the other side too. Especially my favorite pieces of work clothing...hard to let go of a good ol' shirt that just feels...right.

Ball caps .. or .. Trucker's hat, @waretrop . I've found that I can run them through the wash at least 3 times before they shrink too much to stay on my head.

The sweat band is too thick to come clean with a normal washing. Detergents have caused skin rashes so I'm reluctant to use just anything but hair shampoo rubbed in seems to work fine.

This is the first year in memory that I tried to separate my work Levis from my new Levis. It wasn't successful. On a cold morning, I would put on a warmer, new pair.

When I go somewhere special ... whatever that means ... I will find a newer pair of jeans to put on. The threadbare, holey Levis are left in the drawer. Clean hat and shirt, I'm good to go.

My daughter reminded me just the other day that it was exactly a year since I've left the property in slacks. Twelve months, I wore something other than jeans - once. Since it was a very warm October 2015, I didn't even wear a sports jacket and it was enough that I left my hat in the pickup.

my gardening shirt of 4 years is done for guess i will going to the goodwill store to find another this winter. was hard to let it go, dw has been threatening to get rid of a couple of my shorts. told her not till i rip the seat out them, you can throw then.

from april till it turns cold i live in shorts and comfortable shirts home and work <must say i hate the dark blue uniform shirts, they make you start sweating as soon as you go out in the sun>.
