I know this comes as "no news" for the Midwest.

You know, it is true in the Pacific Northwest, as well!

The highest temperature for the contiguous United States yesterday (for the 2nd day) was Entiat, Washington. My spell checker doesn't even know how to spell Entiat! (National High and Low link)

It was 97f in Entiat! This town is in apple country in central Washington State. It is just a little over 100 miles south of the Canadian border. Yesterday, there were records set right along the border and down along the Columbia River.

The last 2 springs, here I was complaining and complaining that the central part of the US had this massive high pressure "pillow" that kept storms out! That meant that the clouds in the Northwest just hung around and hung around! We had records for the slowest warming springs! Wow, all of a sudden, not this year!

i think we had one of the driest April's i've ever seen. we finally got rain last night and today so far is threatening with being overcast and sort of dreary till we get more rain tonight. i have to run out and get my 24 apple trees, 1 peach and a pear tree planted today while there is some free moisture to help them settle in.

actually, i didn't get a chance before the rain started pouring again. then a friend asked me to give him a lift from work and to a doc appointment, so i've been mostly running around town today instead of getting chores done. once i finally got home the clouds started breaking up for a little bit and rain stopped. tomorrow will be another busy day of running around to 2 interviews, one is a second interview for a part time position that may turn out to be full time. i'm hoping after all the running around i will get home to put some trees in. most of the trees are bare root since they are the ones i grafted 6 weeks ago, 2 are in pots. here's hoping there will be some decent break in the weather to get some work done. we need the rain, but it is better to work when it is not pouring buckets! :)

Hope you get the position you want Chickie. :fl

Steve, isn't this weather :weee ? I think I'm getting acclimated to the heat finally, but I'm still sweating like a racehorse even without great exertion. But it's sweet, and it's making up for the last two eternally long cold springs. I'm really anticipating a great garden year.

I do think the weather go reversed. Big Time. It was so hot and dry the farmers had crops in by now. This year they are still waiting for things to dry out and last frost date of May 15th to be safe. CRAZY.

The weather here is supposed to be back to near-normal by early next week. A normal high is in the 60's. It will be near-record for a couple more days, the WS tells us.

It would certainly improve our growing season to have a warm start - as long as we don't burn up about half way thru. Just in a regular year, I get real tired of smelling smoke during late summer.

You know, in 2012, while essentially the entire nation had above normal temperatures by the time everything was said and done -- there were places on the NW coast that had a below normal average temperature year. Yes, I can't remember where NOAA put that map but heat in the interior really kept things cool on the North Pacific coast.

As it is, I am about ready to start posting weather conditions in Stanley, Idaho just to try to cool off from that exercise!
