HI,
How do I know (other than just trying it) if a plant is the kind that I can just root from a cutting? When I see a plant I like, I think about taking a small cutting and rooting it, but I don't really know when it works and when it doesn't. I know it works with all the vines I've tried it with.

Thanks
Jamie

Personally I Google it & then choose a couple of sites & see what they say. The university sites in the US are wonderful & packed full of info -- I.as a Brit, living in the UK use them all the time as they are much more user friendly than ours.

Hope this helps. :happy_flower

You could also go to a site like this for info, this I just pulled out of my list:-

Thanks for the welcome and the link to that nice reference material. Now I just have to figure out how to identify the plants. :)

Pay attention to the best timing at which to root whatever plant you want a cutting of. This is a big key to success. Become familiar with the basic types of cutting -- softwood, greenwood, etc. Those are probably the biggest things you should be familiar with. Look up each individual plant, for specifics, before you attempt a cutting. Good luck and have fun!

Right! :D Try this sight:-

http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=PAIN6

If you look over on the left it gives you all the different ways/catagories of information they hold (including a HUGE number of photos). I just happened to be looking at passion flowers that day.

Now the next bit you have to sort yourself, I afraid.......!! :idunno  :gig

GOOD LUCK ! :happy_flower
