Wel, thanks to you wonderful fanatics the infamous rosebushes that will not die in my front yard have been carefully pruned and even watered. Now what?!;)

Half of the leaves look slightly reddened, if that helps guide your advice....

If the reddish leaves are this years new ones that is really good news. I would give them a feed with good quality rose food, lightly forked in around the bushes & then mulch thickly. Keep watering deeply once a week & WAIT patiently for them to bloom. Watch out for aphids as the new growth attracts them -- the moment you see any SPRAY Hard With your garden hose till they drop off. That's all I do.....!! :happy_flower

Good Luck & good for you for rehabilitating them......!! :clap

That is good news! Instead of rose food, could I spread a thick layer of compost and then mulch? Trying not to use any chemicals....

Thanks Hattie- great getting advice form The Rose Queen!:weight

Yes that will be fine but I would give them some extra "manure tea" once every month (from spring to fall) as a booster. Just dump some chicken manure in a bucket/container & fill up with water (I also add nettles for extra Ooomp.....!!),cover it. Leave in an out-of -the-way sunny position for a couple of weeks until it really stinks, then dilute 50/50 with water & pout round the roses. The sludgy residue is good buried under pole beans or squash etc.

WARNING: It is a really evil-smelling mixture but it works a treat & is free. You can also dilute it a lot more & add just a drop of liquid soap & spray it as a foliar feed on your roses & vegetables.

Good luck !! :happy_flower

What a great idea! I have tons of chicken poo (is there anything it can't do??!!).

Question-the roses line my walkway to the house. Will it stink up my front yard? :(

Got it-maybe I could give them a treatment, then water the next day to help dilute the smell?
