Rugosa Roses

Rugosa roses are about as carefree as a rose can get. They only flower for a few weeks, ever flowering roses like knock out are much more in demand. I had my eye out for some for 2 years. I found them of all places at the Christmas store. The dormant plants I bought from them in past never did well for me. But at $6 a bush I picked up 4 rugosa and 1 shrub rose. Any other roses is soon covered in black spot, not rugosa >

I haven't grown them myself, lack of space but a friend has them and I have to say they have the most delicious fragrance.

They are very salt tolerant, so can be planted along roads salted in winter.

How do you brew the rose hips ?

It is necessary to take a thermos, pour rose hips 1/4. Pour the boiling water. I add sugar, stir in advance in the cup with boiling water. An hour later, the drink is ready. I have a large thermos, we drink it for two days. It's so delicious!
