I have a malva/mallow plant that has terrible rust. What I read online said they are done for and I just need to yank them and destroy them. They are so nice and big this year, tho! Is there anything I can treat them with?? It is pretty far along; I definitely did not catch it early. :(

Ours gets that rust too. But we leave ours so it can re-seed and send up more plants next year.
Keep watering them, and even spray the stalks, leaves, and seed pods -- that will encourage seeds to fall and get settled in the moist soil.

I have never seen rust on mallow. Rust can be prevented not cured. Try cutting it back and spraying with milk, baking soda, or an organic rust prevention.

If it is too far along, perhaps the plants can't be salvaged, Kate.

Snapdragons can get rust so bad that it just kills them dead. I used Daconil for a couple of years until it just seemed like there was no benefit, at all. I switched to Spectracide Immunox Multi-Purpose and it did the job. Both of these are supposed to be safe for veggies but I'm not going that route. On the snapdragons, I'm willing to spray.

That Spectracide also works for black spot on roses and zinnias. Sometimes, it seems like its a race as to whether the the black spot will overtake the zinnias from the bottom up before the first frost kills them, from the top down. Not much of a problem with the spray.

Mildew on the zinnias? Nothing showed up, with the spray.

Steve
